Read MoreAs a photographer, I'm a naturally creative person. I'm always looking for quirky backgrounds, angles and perspectives that will make my images stand out.
When looking through my archives for the 30 Days of Wedding Photography challenge, I noticed just how much I use reflection as a tool in my wedding photography.
I use lakes, puddles, mirrors, windows or even my phone screen positioned underneath the camera to create a reflection.
Adding another element into a photograph like this adds more depth and style to a moment of the day.
During the bridal preparation part of the day, reflections are a great place to start for one reason.
Often, the Bride and her Bridesmaids are fairly nervous and stressed in the build up to the ceremony, and don’t necessarily want a huge camera in front of their faces.
With reflections in mirrors and other surfaces, I can capture plenty of key wedding moments without ever pointing the camera in the same direction.
This is a massive creative win.
Some moments present themselves in reflections but most of the time I will add a reflection to a bride and groom portrait, when I have a little more time to think and curate my shot.
Reflections can be subtle or majorly obvious, but either way they add further interest to the images. They're usually the shots where people go "wow!".
Indoors, outdoors, rain or shine I love to reflect my images as much as possible, as I'm sure you'll agree the effect is stunning.
I am a relaxed wedding photographer, specialising in natural portrait and reportage photography. I meet couples each Tuesday at locations across the North West to talk weddings and find out a little more about their plans.

One of the reasons I love my job is because of the fact I get to work with fun, laid back and genuinely lovely people. Hayley & Richard pretty much summarise those three things.
These guys know how to enjoy time together. Hayley and Richard work in highly time consuming jobs, which sometimes means they don't see each other for weeks on end. You can tell after being with them for 5 minutes how much they value each others company (..and Eric's obviously!), and how they make the most of the time they have together.
After being together for over 10 years, Richard decided to make it official by proposing to Hayley along the same riverbanks we met at yesterday. He even made a giant custom proposal sign! What a guy.
Myself, Hayley, Richard and their big man (English bulldog) Eric met up in sunny Preston at Avenham & Miller park, for their pre-wedding engagement session. The legend who is Eric decided to take us all on a tour of the park and its colourful areas, which we decided to stop off at along the way and grab some natural and fun photos. Nothing staged, just nice and easy.
I can't wait to photograph Hayley & Richard's big day, and see them tie the knot very soon. Here's a few teaser images from our meet-up yesterday ahead of their wedding day!
Wow! These-two simply could not stop smiling and having a great time!
I just met with Jane & Craig for their ‘Capture You’ session, 2 weeks before their big day.
We started on a small beach besides Fairhaven Lake, Lytham, then headed down to the dunes to catch some intimate sunset photos! The weather treated us amazingly, with sunshine, warmth, and great light!
Jane & Craig have an obvious love for each other due to the amount of time they spend laughing!I’m so excited to see how this energy carries through to their big day with their family and friends!
Here are the highlights!
Well what a blast that was! I travelled out to Goosnargh, near Longridge, Preston, today to meet my great friends Jo & Mark, and photograph their little girl, Mia-Rose. She’s beautiful!
The weather was just fantastic; warm & sunny! To add to the amazing weather, their house looks out towards Beacon Fell, which provides a stunning view. We started with some photos within the house to get Mia used to the camera, then made our way outside to the garden to capture some summer-feeling images.
Jo, Mark, it was lovely to catch up with you, and meet your beautiful little girl, Mia.
